Successful Centacow Pilgrimage 2016
The Feast of the Sacred Heart Centacow Pilgrimage 2016 was organised by the Inter-diocesan Committee at Centocow in the Marianhill Diocese, KZN and took place on 3 June 2016. This national celebration is held every three years and unites members from all corners of the Southern Africa region and is an opportunity for members to visit this very significant site where our beloved Sodality originated in 1895.
Embarking on a pilgrimage is another recommended activity during a Jubilee Year and 2016 was an indeed an extraordinary year as it coincided with the Centocow pilgrimage. The Johannesburg Archdiocese was one of 29 local dioceses in attendance and members of the Sodality from neighbouring countries also made up the large number of pilgrims who travelled to the event.
The liturgy was led by the Marianhill Diocesan Choir and our Sodality’s very own young men and women musical group, “Intokozo ya Makhatholika”. The programme theme was consistent with that of the Jubilee Year of Mercy and many had their confessions heard and receieved many graces as promised by Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque: “Sinners will find in my Heart an infinite ocean of Mercy.”
Praises and jubilant songs were belted out by the enthused crowd throughout the night and lasted until daybreak the next morning. One of the highlights of the night vigil celebration was the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the procession with the Eucharist accompanied by all the priests and led by a brass band and young drum majorettes who braved the cold weather to come and honour the Sacred Heart of Our Lord. Oh, how that heart is loved by many. May we continue to make reparation to this Heart and return Love for love.
